BMI FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1 What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?
BMI is a simple screening value that measures weight relative to height. It is widely used to evaluate if an individual's body weight falls into healthy limits or poses possible health risks.
2 What is the formula used to calculate BMI?
In metric systems, the formula is: BMI = weight (kg) / height² (m²). In imperial systems, the formula is: BMI = [weight (lbs) / height² (in²)] x 703.
3 What are the standard health classification ranges?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO): Underweight = BMI under 18.5; Healthy Weight = BMI between 18.5 and 24.9; Overweight = BMI between 25.0 and 29.9; Obese = BMI of 30.0 or higher.
4 Does BMI measure body fat directly?
No. BMI does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat tissue. For example, athletes or bodybuilders with high muscle mass can have a high BMI score while having very low levels of body fat.
5 Are my height and weight records saved?
No. All weight logs, height values, and BMI indicators are calculated locally inside your browser thread sandbox. No parameters are shared or recorded on external databases.
